Clapham

Clapham is located in south west London with the districts of Battersea and Brixton to the north. Clapham is famous mainly for Clapham Junction station - reputedly the busiest station in Europe. Before the railways arrived, Clapham was a country crossroads and favourite stopping off point for the gentry traveling between London and the home counties. The railway station opened in 1863 and the surrounding area was quickly transformed with shops and other amenities being built to cater for the ever increasing number of rail travelers passing through. Clapham Common is a popular park with a large area of common land.
